PAUL EDWIN BROWN SR

Rev. Paul Edwin Brown Sr., a beloved figure in the Dallas community, departed this life on August 25, 2025, at the age of 75. Born on March 20, 1950, in Dallas, Texas, he has been a dedicated ordained minister since the early 1990s, serving with unwavering faith and commitment. Paul Edwin Brown Sr. was the son of Rose Evelyn Bookman and Curtis Daniel Brown. Rev. Brown's educational journey took him through L.G. Pinkston and then through Job Corps, a foundation that helped him throughout his life. Soon after high school, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on October 9, 1967. He completed Marine Corps Recruit Depot on November 30, 1967, with the First Battalion, Platoon 1082, in San Diego, California. He lived in Oceanside, California, before being sent to Vietnam to fight in the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged after the death of his brother, Curtis Charles “Butch” Brown, in the same war. In addition to his military service, Paul enjoyed a variety of interests, including dominoes, spades, chess, and reading. He has always been passionate about his religious studies and was one who had a way with words. He was an enthusiast for fashion and a regular at church services. Rev. Brown embodied a zest for life that inspired those around him.

Paul married Ms. Sandra LaRue High on April 5th, 1968, and to this union five children were born: Curtis Charles Brown, Paul Edwin Brown Jr., of Dallas, Texas, Brennan Tremaine Brown of McKinney, Texas, Jerren Rashad Brown, and 1 daughter, JoAnna Sha’Nae Brown, both of Dallas, Texas.

Paul Sr. first worked as a Special Education Teacher for Head Start of Greater Dallas, then later transitioned into a Quality Control Inspector for many years. He also worked as a Home Health Aide before his health declined. He was ordained by his father, Rev. C.D. Brown, while serving under his grandfather, the late Rev. Dr. Walter Bookman Sr., until he died in 1995. Paul later joined Leath Street Missionary Baptist Church under the tutelage of his father, Rev. Curtis Daniel Brown, where he has continued to serve under the leadership of his stepbrother, Rev. Paul W. Brown Sr.

Paul Sr. was preceded in death by his mother, Mrs. Rose Evelyn Roberts, his father, Rev. C.D. Brown, his older brother, Curtis Charles “Butch” Brown, his sisters, Ada Katherine “Sista” Hollywood and Curtis Jean “Darlin” Brown, and one great-grandchild.

Paul leaves to mourn his children, Curtis Charles (Kimberly)Brown, Paul Edwin Brown Jr, Brian Keith Hampton, Brennan Tremaine Brown, Jerren Rashad Brown, and JoAnna Sha’Nae Brown. He has 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. His brothers, Roy Brown, Michael Bookman Sr., Rev. Kavin Eugene Brown (Lenora), Samuel Brown, and stepbrother Rev. Paul W. Brown Sr. (Phyllis). His sisters, Willena Halton, Carolyn Bacon (Kenneth Sr.) & Marsha Roberts, and his stepmother, Mrs. Lillie Mae Brown. His Goddaughter, Ms. Tamara Massey. Also, his devoted companion, Ms. Cassandra Sweat, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Rev. Paul Edwin Brown Sr. will be deeply missed, yet his spirit and teachings will continue to resonate within the community. His legacy lives on in the hearts of his surviving family members and friends, who remember him as a guiding light in their lives.

His life will be celebrated with a Prayer Service on September 2, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Leath Street Missionary Baptist Church, located at 1831 Canada Dr, Dallas, TX 75212. A Funeral Service will follow on September 3, 2025, at 11:00 AM at New Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, located at 1932 Dennison Street, Dallas, TX 75212. He will be laid to rest with honors on September 4, 2025, at 9:00 AM at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, TX 75211.

Immediately following the funeral on Wednesday, the family will welcome others with a repast held at Leath Street Missionary Baptist Church. Please join them.
