George Dukes was born in Newton, Mississippi, to the parents of Clarence Lee Dukes and Georgia Heard-Dukes. He was a beloved, devoted, and cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. George never met a stranger. He showed love to everyone he met. He was a skilled swimmer who once rescued a drowning friend. He was able to bring his friend to safety and provide CPR. As a result, the friend's life was saved.

Wherever he went, he always encountered someone he knew or someone whose vehicle he had worked on.
