Ray Gene Bollin Sr., lovingly known as “Half Gone,” passed away on October 19, 2026, at the age of 80. Born on February 21, 1946, Ray lived a life marked by quiet strength, steady kindness, and deep love for those closest to him.
He was educated at Booker T. Washington in Dallas, Texas, and went on to work as an electrical engineer. In both his work and his life, Ray carried himself with patience and humility. He was known as a funny, very caring man, a perfect gentleman whose loving nature left a lasting impression on the people around him. Quiet in spirit yet warm in heart, he moved through the world with grace.
Ray found joy in the simple and meaningful pleasures of life. He loved fishing , bowling , cooking and baking especially sweet potato pies, and he was especially at home at the grill, preparing food to share with family and friends. He enjoyed bowling and fishing, and music was also an important part of his life. He sang and played guitar and was an original member of The Sensational Travelers. These passions reflected the richness of his character and the many ways he connected with others.
Of all the blessings in his life, his proudest accomplishment was his children and meeting the love of his life, Guquito, in 1992. Family stood at the center of Ray’s heart, and his love for them was one of the defining gifts of his life.
He is survived by his wife, Guquito Bollin, and by the family they shared: Sophia Westmoreland and Jerome, Sharon Jones and Rodney, Ray Bollin Jr., LaQuito Cannon and Rodriguez, Dell Daniels and Janeaka, and Segundo Daniels. He is also survived by his brother, Donald Bollin. Those who knew Ray through his family life knew a man whose devotion ran deep, and whose presence brought warmth, steadiness, and care into the lives of the people he loved.
Ray was preceded in death by his father, Wilie Bollin; his mother, Stella Bollin; and his siblings Wilie B. Bollin, Jimmy Lee Bollin, Dorothy Bollin, Margaret Bollin, Jessie Doris Bollin, Jack Bollin, and Robert Bollin.
Ray Gene Bollin Sr. will be remembered for his gentle spirit, his humor, his music, and the love he gave so freely. His memory lives on in the family he cherished, in the songs he played, and in the many moments of comfort and joy he created throughout his life.
