Roderick Kent Hubbard, known to many simply as Kent, passed away on October 22, 2026, in Glenn Heights, Texas. He was born on June 27, 1958, in Monroe, Louisiana, and will be remembered as a man whose warmth, humor, and unmistakable presence filled every room he entered.
Kent was witty, fun, and funny, a man who loved to laugh and to make others laugh right along with him. He never met a stranger, and his easy spirit drew people in with a natural kindness that made others feel welcome. One of the memories that stays close for those who knew him is that he truly had “no inside voice,” a trait that perfectly matched his joyful nature and the lively energy he carried through life.
He found happiness in the simple and lasting pleasures of creating and sharing. He loved to cook, especially homemade biscuits, peach cobbler, and banana pudding, dishes that surely brought comfort and delight to those gathered around his table. He was also an artist who enjoyed ceramics, expressing himself through both his hands and his imagination. Whether in the kitchen or through his art, Kent gave something of himself to others, and those gifts will be remembered with affection.
Above all, his proudest accomplishment was his family. He is survived by his wife, Mary Hubbard, and by the family they shared: Gardana Wright, Kemisha Wright, Sharon Davis, Lakenyah Hill, and Melvin Copleland. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Chardarius Wright, Amiracle Wright, Aniya Chappel, Jayden Perkins, and Yazmin Bass, as well as his great-grandchildren, Noel Ledbetter and Amelia Wright. He is also survived by his brothers, Elvin Winslow and Danny Hubbard, and by his sister, Terria Wiley. In their lives, and in the memories they carry forward, his love and laughter will continue to endure.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Farris Jr.; his mother, Gustena Coleman Hubbard; his sisters, Velma Lemle, Regina Hubbard, and Barbara Hubbard; and his brothers, Charles Ray Farris, Johnnie Hubbard, and Aubrey Coleman.
Kent’s life was marked by humor, generosity of spirit, creativity, and deep devotion to those he loved. He leaves behind a legacy of laughter, family closeness, and unforgettable presence that will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
