Ruby Mae Williams, a beacon of generosity, love, and unwavering faith, passed away on March 24, 2026, Williamsburg Nursing Home in DeSoto, Texas. Born on January 25, 1941, in Mt. Calm, Texas, she carried with her a warmth that touched countless lives and a spirit that never wavered from kindness and devotion.
A proud alumna of the Mt. Calm School District, Ruby’s life was marked by a deep commitment to her family and community. As a homemaker and the beloved cook for her family’s own restaurant, she nurtured not only those at her table but also the many neighbors and children who found comfort in her kitchen. Her role as the former First Lady at Greater Eleazer Baptist Church reflected her spiritual strength and dedication, as she lived a life that was both God-fearing and full of grace.
Ruby was known far and wide as a woman with a kind heart and open arms—“never met a stranger” was not just a saying but a way of life for her. Her generosity extended beyond her immediate family, feeding neighborhood children and welcoming all into her circle of warmth and care. She delighted in the simple pleasures: the sizzle and aroma of her cooking, the thrill of playing the lottery, the captivating tales of soap operas such as The Young and the Restless, Family Feud, and Gunsmoke, and the quiet challenge of word search puzzles. These were the threads of joy woven throughout her days.
Her proudest accomplishment was the love she bore for her children and family—a love that was the true foundation of her life. Though she now rests, her legacy lives on in her daughter, Mattie Wright, and son-in-law, Gary Wright; in seven grandchildren whose lives she enriched; nine great children and in two great-grandchildren who carry a piece of her spirit with them. She is also remembered by a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and cherished friends who will forever hold her memory close.
Ruby’s journey was preceded by deep sorrow with the loss of her son Walter, her daughters Gail and Willie Jr., and son Leonard Williams. She also mourned the passing of five sisters—Martha, Odessa, Edna, Erma, and Willie—and brothers Thomas, Arnesta, Frank, and Andy. Her beloved parents, Willie and Arlene Henderson, welcomed her home into eternal peace. She was also reunited with one great-grandchild who had passed before her.
The community is invited to honor Ruby Mae Williams’s remarkable life at Golden Gate Funeral Home in Fort Worth, Texas. The viewing will be held on April 3, 2026, starting at 11:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., followed by the funeral service at the same location on April 4, 2026, beginning at 11:00 a.m., concluding at noon.
Special thanks to Heart to Heart Hospice for their care and compassion.
Ruby’s generous soul, her loving presence, and her steadfast spiritual walk have left an indelible mark on all who knew her. In her memory, may we carry forward her kindness, her unwavering faith, and the enduring love she so freely gave.
