With profound sorrow and heartfelt reverence, we announce the passing of Ruby Nell Wilson, a trailblazer and distinguished figure in the annals of law enforcement. Born on the 9th of February, 1941, Ruby's journey through life was marked by courage, dedication, and an indomitable spirit that forged pathways for countless others.
Ruby Nell Wilson held the esteemed position of Dallas County Deputy Sheriff, proudly serving her community with unwavering commitment. Her career is distinguished not only by her tenacity and professionalism but by the monumental achievement of being the first Black woman to retire from this position within Dallas County. This historic milestone stands as a testament to her pioneering spirit and the barriers she courageously dismantled throughout her tenure. She was a member of Bullock Chapel CME Church for over 60 years.
Her departure on May 4, 2026, leaves an indelible void in the hearts of all who knew her and in the wider community she served with such honor. To celebrate her life and legacy, a WAKE will be held at Cedar Crest Cathedral, located at 1616 E Illinois Ave, Dallas, Texas 75216, on May 14, 2026, beginning at 5:00 p.m. and concluding at 7:00 p.m. This solemn occasion offers friends, family, and admirers a sacred moment to reflect upon her exemplary service and enduring influence.
Following this, a Celebration of Life will convene the next day, May 15, 2026, at 10:00am, held at Cedar Crest Cathedral CME, also situated at 1616 E Illinois Ave in Dallas. This gathering promises to be a spirited homage, a time to share stories and memories that highlight the profound impact Ruby had on the lives she touched.
Ruby Nell Wilson’s life was spirited, tenacious, and loyal. She was a beacon for those who aspire to break new ground and serve with honor. Her legacy, carved through decades of steadfast service and unprecedented achievement, will continue to inspire and uplift.
Though our hearts mourn her loss, we celebrate the extraordinary life she led and the enduring imprint she leaves behind. Ruby Nell Wilson’s memory will forever remain a guiding light, illuminating the path for future generations who dare to follow in her remarkable footsteps. May she rest in eternal peace.
