It is with profound sadness and heartfelt remembrance that we announce the passing of Russell Eugene Johnson, a remarkable man whose unique personality and warm heart left an indelible mark on all who knew him. Born on March 11, 1959, in Dallas, Texas, Russell lived a life rich in love, hard work, and devotion.
Russell was known for his straightforward nature, relentless hustle, and unwavering dedication to everything he pursued. A club owner and mechanic by profession, he was not only a great provider but also a man who embraced his passions with enthusiasm. He delighted in cooking fish and barbecuing ribs, bringing joy to family and friends through his culinary talents. Music held a special place in his heart, especially the soulful melodies of the Isley Brothers, which he loved to sing with zest and spirit. Above all, Russell cherished children, sharing his warmth and kindness generously.
His proudest accomplishments were his sobriety and the family he nurtured with love and pride: his children and grandchildren. Russell’s legacy is carried forward by his loving wife, Yolanda Brown Johnson, and his five children: Anthony Smith, Zakiyyah Johnson Richmond (Thomas Richmond), Rasheda Johnson, Kiana Bradford, and Russell E. Johnson Jr. He was also a devoted stepfather to Travonte Brown and Dontarus Ephriam, and a loving stepfather to Trenecia Whisenton. His sister, Carla F. Johnson, stood beside him, along with the many grandchildren who adored him—Antrineque Smith, La'Trahn’e J K. Jacobs, Korionna J Gillis, Rashaad Gillis, Carlos Bradford Jr., Camryn Bradford,step-granddaughters, Danaria Brown, Shanyhla Brown, and Sa’mya Jackson—as well as great-grandchild Kodah Jacobs. Russell was surrounded by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends who all treasured his presence.
His family also remembers his ex-wife, Linda Johnson Boyd, and previous spouse Cheron Ephriam. Last but not least "Big Daddy Johnson" his pit bull.
He, was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Jack Lee and Henrietta Johnson, sisters Erma Jean Owens, Janice Holley, Jacqueline Johnson, and Paulette Johnson, as well as a previous loved one, Cecilia Dickey.
A celebration of Russell’s life will take place on May 15, 2026, from 1:00 p.m.at Golden Gate Funeral Home – Dallas Allene, located at 4155 S R. L. Thornton Freeway, Dallas, TX 75224. This gathering will honor his memory, his spirit, and the profound impact he had on those around him.
Russell Eugene Johnson’s story is one of strength, love, and resilience—a testament to a man who lived fully and loved deeply. He leaves behind a legacy of courage, family devotion, and the enduring songs of his heart. Though he has departed from this world, his warm spirit and the memories he created will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him.
