SAMMIE LOUIS JETER, a man whose life radiated warmth and joy, passed away on April 16, 2026, in Dallas, Texas. Born on July 19, 1950, in Overton, Texas, Sammie carried with him the spirit of resilience and dedication that touched every life he encountered.
A proud graduate of Franklin D. Roosevelt High School in May 1968, Sammie pursued higher education at Navarro Junior College in Corsicana, Texas, and further enriched his academic journey at East Texas State in Commerce, Texas. His thirst for knowledge was matched only by his commitment to service and faith.
Sammie’s career was marked by unwavering dedication. He faithfully served the City of Dallas Water Department, where he built a respected legacy before retiring in 2016. Prior to this, he contributed his skills to William-Ladew Fire Protection. His work was recognized with numerous honors, notably the distinguished Pastor's Award "Man of the Year" and several accolades from the City of Dallas, Water Department—testaments to his professionalism and integrity.
Beyond his professional achievements, Sammie was a towering presence, a larger-than-life personality whose laughter filled rooms and whose heart overflowed with love for the Lord. He found profound joy in singing, particularly with the Church Male Chorus Choir, where his voice soared in praise. His passion extended into his outreach efforts, as he devoted time visiting nursing homes, uplifting residents with song and companionship—a ministry of music and kindness that mirrored his soul.
The community and congregation that knew him will remember Sammie not only for his remarkable vocal gifts but for his infectious spirit, his readiness to serve, and his unwavering faith. He was a man deeply rooted in his beliefs, who sang for the Lord with both reverence and joy, inspiring all who heard him.
Services honoring Sammie Louis Jeter will be held over two days. A viewing will take place on April 23, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Golden Gate Funeral Home-Dallas, located at 4155 S R.L. Thornton Freeway, Dallas, TX 75224. The funeral service will follow on April 24, 2026, at 11:00 AM at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, 444 West Ledbetter Drive, Dallas, TX 75224..
