SHARI ODESSA HERNDON

April 30, 1962 — March 1, 2026

SHARI ODESSA HERNDON, a loving mother, grandmother, and friend, departed this world on March 1, 2026, in Mansfield, TX, leaving behind a legacy of laughter, love, and unwavering loyalty. Born on April 30, 1962, in Gary, IN, Shari was more than just a remarkable woman; she was a beacon of light whose infectious humor and caring nature illuminated the lives of all who had the grace to know her.

After over twenty years in accounting at Game Stop, Shari retired, but not before making indelible impressions on her colleagues and serving with exceptional dedication. Her commitment to hard work was evident even in her juggling three jobs simultaneously—a testament to her relentless spirit and love for her family. While she found fulfillment in her career, it was her role as a mother and grandmother that brought her the greatest joy. Shari took immense pride in her children: daughter Courtney Smith and Christine Winters, and son Kenneth Herndon, cherishing each moment with them. Her grandchildren—Courtland Sumlin, Angel Sumlin, Corleon Mims, Boss Alexander, nieces/grandchildren, Keyshaun Thomas, Donyel Thomas, and Donstasia Thomas. —and great-granddaughter Isabella Sumlin were her cherished treasures, inspiring her to cultivate a legacy of love, compassion, and commitment.

Education held tremendous value for Shari, who proudly attended Westside Senior High School in Gary, IN, before furthering her studies at the University of Houston. This thirst for knowledge was woven into her personality; she was funny, outgoing, and caring, nurturing the bonds of family and friendship. Gatherings were often graced with her shining presence, as she delighted in cooking, baking, and laughing over games of spades or marathoning episodes of Days of Our Lives. Dining out with family was a joy she savored, and every recipe she crafted was seasoned with love.

Shari's dedication extended beyond her household, reflected in her involvement with outreach ministry for the homeless. This commitment to service illustrated her boundless compassion and understanding for all.

She leaves behind a tapestry of beloved family and cherished friends, including her siblings: Carolyn Green, Kem Dion Thomas, John Johnson (Eunice), Darian Herndon, Devin Herndon, Vina Green (Michael), Bennie Herndon, Tara Reed (Tony), and George White; her brother-in-law, Vernon Mitchell; and a host of nieces and nephews.  However, she is preceded in death by her parents, John and Gladys Herndon; her sister Myla Mitchell; and her granddaughter Precious Winters.

A viewing will take place on March 20, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Golden Gate Funeral Home in Dallas, TX, followed by a funeral service on March 21, 2026, at 1:00 PM at the same location.

As we remember Shari Odessa Herndon, we are reminded of a life well-lived—a life that revolved around family and friendship, enriched by laughter and bound by love. The void she leaves will be felt deeply, but her spirit will forever dance in the hearts of those she touched.
