SUPT. EDDIE SCOTT

January 14, 1945 — July 25, 2018

Eddie Lee Scott was born on January 14, 1945 in Fate, Texas to Mrs. Katherine Rebecca Lakes. A young, enthusiastic Eddie received his formal education in Rockwall and was a 1962 graduate of Bourn Avenue School. After graduating school, entrepreneurial minded Eddie launched an ambulance business providing livery services throughout the Dallas and Ft. Worth metropolitan area. As owner and operator, Eddie served with a spirit of excellence while touching the lives of every patron he met. Never wandering far from the Word of God planted in him by his mother, Eddie was saved and filled with the Holy Ghost as a member of Lakes Chapel Church Of God In Christ, Rockwall, Texas. Eddie obeyed God’s voice and accepted his call to ministry under the tutelage of Elder Willie Walker. By obeying God’s voice, God began perfecting a voice in Eddie that would cause him go into the world and preach the Message. Minister Scott continued honoring his voice while faithfully serving in every capacity at Lakes Chapel Church Of God In Christ. As God had purposed he was ordained an Elder and appointed as Pastor of Lakes Chapel Church Of God In Christ by Bishop F. L. Haynes. With a zeal for the Word of God, Elder Scott planted Gospel Center Church in both Dallas and Greenville, Texas. It is during these years God perfected Pastor Scott’s voice to a distinctive, soul stirring baritone. His baritone voice began promoting world-renowned Gospel artists as they performed throughout Texas. Pastor Scott promoted Bishop Richard ’Mr. Clean’ White, Pastor Shirley Caesar, the Blind Boys of Alabama, the O’Neal Twins and many others. The voice was amplified as Announcer and Station Manager of Dallas radio station KDFT 540 AM and later on KGVL in Terrell, Texas. As a willing worker in the Texas Northeast Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction, Pastor Scott met and became friends with Superintendent James E. Lee. This enduring friendship would stand the test of time and extend past jurisdictional boundaries; as both men would later be called to serve in the Texas East Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction under the leadership of Bishop S. D. Lee. Continuing to work in the Midway District under Superintendent James E. Lee, Pastor Scott would once again use his voice in 1984 in support of Superintendent Lee’s consecration to the Bishopric of the Church Of God in Christ. In 1986, Bishop J. Edward Lee installed Dr. Eddie L. Scott as Pastor of the Vineyard Church Of God in Christ. Laboring faithfully, Pastor Scott’s vision for Vineyard came to pass when in 2013 the church moved from West Dallas to its present location at 1035 W. Danieldale Road Dallas, Texas. Dr. E. L. Scott married Evangelist Gwen Smith-Savage on April 12, 1985 with Shirley Caesar live in concert at the Carl P. Collins Auditorium. This friendship blossomed into a 33 year strong union of love, honor, and service to God and their family. In a loving home, Dr. E. L. and Lady Gwen raised Yolanda, Sherry, Kina, Willie II, Tara, and Samantha to know and fear the Lord. He imparted his love for people and service to God on his family through word and deed. Dr. Scott, as he was affectionately known, gave of himself by mentoring young Ministers and Pastors. With a voice like none other he encouraged friendship, fellowship, and servanthood. His daily phone calls were a highlight to many he considered and called “Son.” On Wednesday July 25, 2018, Dr. Eddie L. Scott answered a call ordering him to “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” He responded with a resounding “Yes, Lord!”

Dr. E. L. Scott was preceded in death by his mother, Katherine Rebecca Lakes, and his brother, Jerry Scott. Those left to echo his voice and remember his legacy: his loving wife of 33 years District Missionary Gwen Scott; 2 sons: Willie (Vikki) Savage II, Jerry Justice; 7 daughters: Yolanda Lowe, Sherry (Wilbur) Smith, Kina (Ronnie) Day, Tara Savage, Samantha (Samuel) Richardson, Gladys Gabriel, Sherry Justice; 15 grandchildren: Ashley, Ashton, Damita, Tempest, Nicole, Tristan, Victoria, Dakota, Tyra, Samuel III, Sametria, Jacobi, Jamal, Kianna, and Prianna; 10 greatgrandchildren; 5 brothers: Frankie (Deloris), Earl (Minche), Curtis (Tressie), Curtis-Joe, and Tommy; 3 sisters; Shirley Lewis, Kathy Jackson, Sandra Perry; his only aunt, Missionary Faye Kelsey; a special niece Leshawn Alexander; the Vineyard Worship Center Family, a host of relatives, friends, the S.
