TOMMY DANIEL KING

Jan 20, 1940 — Aug 21, 2026

MIDLOTHIAN, TX

With deep sadness, yet with gratitude for a life well-lived, we celebrate the legacy of TOMMY DANIEL KING, lovingly known to so many as “T.D.” He departed this life on August 21, 2026, leaving behind a tapestry of memories, service, hard work, and enduring love.

Born January 20, 1940, in Ladonia, Texas, Tommy’s earliest years were marked by the values of resilience and generosity, lessons instilled by his parents, Willie and Allie King. Those early days in Texas, surrounded by siblings, prepared him for a life defined by community and dedication.

He graduated from Dalworth High School, Class of 1960, laying the educational foundation for a journey of achievement. Hungry for knowledge and spiritual growth, he later attended the Southern Bible Institute, deepening his faith and commitment to service.

Tommy was a man who thrived on purpose and perseverance. In 1968, he founded Tommy King’s Delivery Service—a dream realized through tireless effort and steadfast belief. As the proud owner, he not only created a livelihood for himself and his family, but also provided dependable service to his community. This endeavor, alongside the milestone of purchasing his beloved home, stood among his proudest accomplishments—tangible testaments of his vision and industrious spirit.

Family was the heart of Tommy’s world. He was the devoted husband to Jean King, and together they built a lifetime of cherished moments. The love and guidance he provided lives on in his daughters, Teresa Hutchinson, Audrey King, Meliesha King, Kimberly King, Sonya Jenkins, Tamika King, and in his son, Tracy King. His legacy is further enriched by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and it carries forward through a host of other family members and friends whose lives he touched in profound ways.

Tommy’s faith was ever-present, a guiding light throughout his journey. At New Hope Baptist Church, his hands and voice found countless ways to serve. He was an ordained Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, member of the Usher Board, and graced the choir with his spirit and song. Later, as a cherished member of the men’s choir at St. John Unleashed, he continued to lift spirits and praise. In every role, he led by gentle example—his faith evident in every action and word.

Beyond his labor and ministry, Tommy’s presence was a source of joy and warmth. He found pleasure in fishing, being outdoors, reading the Bible, and relishing the simple magic of a sunny day. He delighted in sports, cheering on the Dallas Cowboys and Mavericks, and track and field events. Those who knew him also recall how he’d tinker endlessly—fixing things that perhaps didn’t need fixing, but simply allowed him to help or improve the world around him.

What truly set Tommy apart was his character. He was known for his generosity, helpfulness, and sound advice. A true man of God, he was both resilient and happy, a hard worker whose laughter could fill a room and whose kindness could lift a burden. In every season of his life, Tommy shared wisdom and warmth that made everybody feel a little more at home.

Though preceded in death by his father and mother, Willie and Allie King; his brothers, Willie King, Henry King, and Herbert King; his sisters, Alice Pointer and Mattie King; and his beloved first wife, Velma, Tommy now rests in the embrace of those who went before, assuredly still watching over those he loved so deeply.

A celebration of Tommy’s life will be held on August 29, 2026, at New Hope Baptist Church, 1017 East Marshall Drive, Grand Prairie, TX 75051. A viewing will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Family, friends, and all those touched by Tommy’s remarkable life are invited to join in remembrance, reflection, and gratitude for the gift of his presence among us.

The story of TOMMY DANIEL KING is one of faith, hard work, love, and laughter. He leaves behind a legacy that endures in every life he touched—a beacon of devotion, perseverance, and boundless kindness. He will be dearly missed, yet forever remembered.
