Velma Jean Dial Thompson was born on February 22, 1941 in Sulphur Springs, Texas to the late parents of Lester and Robbie Dial. She was the third child of five siblings. She was a graduate of Douglas High School, Sulphur Springs, Texas in 1960, after which her journey led her to Dallas, Texas where she met and married Jimmy Leon Thompson on August 7, 1965. A sixty year union to which Corey and Craig were born. She worked thirty years for Texas Instrument and retired in 1995.
Jean (as we call her), faithfully served at North Park M.B. Church as the Superintendent of Sunday School, the Baptist Training Union Coordinator, Pastor’s Aide, sixty-one years as a deaconess and sung in the gospel choir, leading an all time favorite (alongside her husband) “ I can see so much of what the Lord has done for me”.
Jean is survived by her husband, Jimmy Leon Thompson of Dallas, TX; her children Corey Thompson of Dallas, TX and Craig Thompson (Erica) of Frisco, TX; sister Betty Wade of Sulphur Springs, TX; God-son Graylin Ford Jr. of Dallas, TX; and Deontay Johnson of Dallas, TX; she leaves to carry her legacy to her children and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A special recognition goes to Dorothy Chatman (Nancy), her sister-in-law Georgia Ford, her hair stylist and dear friend and Caleb Thompson; her grandson for the care they provided to Jean during her illness. Thanks to everyone who provided support to Jimmy during her three years of illness.
