VERA LAVERNE PHILLIPS

May 19, 1932 — October 31, 2025

VERA LAVERNE PHILLIPS, a radiant spirit and a loving matriarch, departed from this world on October 31, 2025, in Dallas, Texas, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and strength. Born on May 19, 1932, in the quiet town of Marshall, Texas, Vera's life was a tapestry woven with vibrant threads of love, laughter, and perseverance.

With a career devoted to the art of housekeeping at Baylor Hospital, Vera established herself as a pillar of dedication and care. Her distinctive personality shone brightly; she was outspoken and direct, unafraid to share her thoughts while radiating an aura of warmth that enveloped all those fortunate enough to know her. She was not just loving but fiercely caring, a beacon of acceptance who embraced everyone with open arms, creating connections that spanned generations.

Vera delighted in life's simple pleasures. She found solace and joy in various hobbies. Whether it was casting a line while fishing, losing herself in the pages of a good book, or preparing delectable meals—especially her famous dressing—she infused her home with love and laughter. Cocktail hours were a cherished ritual, where stories flowed as freely as the drinks, and the soothing scenes of Westerns captivated her evenings.

Her pride in her family was immeasurable. Vera is survived by her devoted daughters, Edna Nickson and Barbara Johnson.  Her legacy lives on through her granddaughters, Kim Bivins, Sondra Young, Tameka Archie, and Barbara Allen; and her grandsons, Alonzo Curtis Heard, Geronald Hill, Nathaniel Allen, and Paul Wilson. All of whom carry forward the memories and lessons she imparted along the way. In addition, a host of other relatives stand as a testament to the bonds she nurtured throughout her life.

As we remember Vera, we celebrate her proudest accomplishments—owning her home and embracing independence, always choosing to do things her way. For her, love was not merely spoken but was a language of actions, where what she did for others revealed the depth of her heart. Many will hold onto the cherished memories and the profound impact she had on their lives.
