BERNITA CRAYTON

Bernita Laymond Crayton (lovingly known as Mama Crayton) was born January 29, 1935 in Calvert, Texas to the parentage of Mr. Joseph Laymond, Sr. and Mrs. Nebertha Drennan Laymond. Bernita received her formal education from Calvert School District, attended W.D. Spigner High School. After high school, she furthered her education by attending Madam C.J. Walker Beauty College and received her Cosmetology License in Dallas, Texas and received college credit hours from Navarro College. Bernita accepted Christ at an early age. She was a member of Wyatt Street Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) for many years. More recently a member of Jim Street Christian Church. She met and married Alvin Crayton and moved Waxahachie, Texas. Bernita raised her family and served the community as the local well-known beautician. The spirit of entrepreneurship allowed her to teach, reach, and inspire others. Bernita Crayton departed this earthly life on January 7, 2021. She is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Sr. and Nebertha Laymond; two sisters, Ever Rose Whited and Ruthie Phillips; four brothers, Charlie, Joseph Jr., Andrew Lee and Chester Laymond; husband Alvin Crayton; son Bernard Crayton; and grandson Fredrick Crayton and one sister, Rosetta Gardner who passed on January 13, 2021. Her pleasant memories are cherished by her son, Ronnie Crayton; five daughters, Valencia Crayton Crow (Roger) of Lancaster, TX Brenda Crayton of Red Oak, TX, Melinda Malone of Cedar Hill, TX, Pamela Crayton of DeSoto, TX, and Jacqueline Pason of Waxahachie, TX; nine grandchildren, Kara Crayton Davidson (Taurus), Patrick Crayton (Najiyyah), Brannon Crayton, Brian Crayton, Bradley Crayton-Barree, Tayler Crayton, William Malone II, Bryson Crayton Monroe and Sydnee Malone; five great grandchildren, Patrick Jr., Kennedy, Preston, Jayla and Santana; ; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
