Billy Ray Elder was born to the union of Matthew L. Waddles and Dorothy M. George on March 24, 1953, in Shreveport, Louisiana.
He was raised in Keithville, Louisiana where received his education in the Keithville Independent School Districts. He and the family later relocated to Dallas, Texas, and he attended South Oak Cliff High School. He was a member of Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor R.L. Jones and later under the leadership of Pastor Larry Johnson, where he and his family were faithful servants for many years.
He was a truck driver (over the road and locally) for many years, and currently worked in transportation for Union Pacific Railroad Miller Yard until his death. He was an avid fisherman, horseback rider, and loved the outdoors and caring for his horses. He also enjoyed cooking and playing dominos.
He is preceded in death by his Father Matthew L. Waddles, Mother Dorothy M. George, and Sister Debbie L. Williams
He leaves to cherish his precious memories: Four children, Reverend Ronald (Erica) Bates, Charmain (Joe) Lewis, Shanira Watson, and Shamone Elder all of Dallas, Texas. Four brothers: Pastor Glenn Hood, Richard Williams, Eddie (Monica) Williams, and Steven (Tammy) George. One sister: Brenda (Wayne) Weaver. Four grandchildren: Zachary Lewis, Zarion Lewis, Kennedy Evans, and Caleb Evans. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends that loves him dearly.
