WILLIAM BATTLE

October 24, 1939 — August 7, 2020

William C. Battle affectionately known by his children, family and friends as William C, Paw Paw, Uncle C, Big Will, Will C, Battle, Bill Battle and the famous of them all “The Pretty Man.” He was born on October 24, 1939 in El Dorado, Arkansas to the late Clifford Battle and Ossie Autry. This tender soul was called to depart on August 7, 2020 at Baylor Scott & White Hospital in Dallas, Texas. William C. remained strong, in good spirit and upbeat till the end.

William C. accepted the Lord as his personal savior at an early age where he united with First Baptist Church of Cordell of El Dorado, Arkansas. He was employed by the US Postal service in Dallas, Texas.

William C is a 1957 graduate of Washington High School where he played basketball for the Washington High Hornets. Became Vice President of the Class of 1957. William C. enlisted in the U.S. Army; where he served 13 years throughout the United States in various states, as well as Korea and Vietnam.

He loved being around family. Most of all enjoying and spoiling his great-grandchildren. William C. was known as one of the greatest Dominologist of all time.

William C. is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents: Nannie Tuggle Autry and Tom Autry, paternal grandparents: Jesse and Jocy Battle; parents: Clifford Battle and Ossie Autry; the love of his life Gillis Green Williams; two sisters: Linda Battle Carter and JoAnn Battle, one special sister Margree Battle Wilson; one brother: Joseph Battle and two nephews Albert C. Boulden and Jerome K. Boulden Sr.; one special brother: Danny L. Davis.

His precious memories will be cherished by: his four beautiful daughters: Sheree Johnson and La Wanda (Roger) Phillips both of El Dorado, Arkansas; Dominique Battle of Irving, Texas; god-daughter: Danielle Davis of El Dorado, Arkansas; one sister: Myrtis Battle Kirk of El Dorado, Arkansas; five nieces Eugenia (Chester) Ford and Lisa Jamerson of El Dorado, Arkansas; Carolyn (Michael) Taylor Sr. of Waxahachie, Texas, Dorathy Boulden of El  Dorado, Arkansas and Veronica Boulden of Houston, Texas; one special nephew: Jerome Benton of El Dorado, Arkansas; one special son: Warren Tex Battle Wilson Sr. of Killeen, Texas; three special brothers, brother-in-law Billy Carter of Dallas, Texas; Gordie Holt of North Richland Hills, Texas; John Jackson of Dallas, Texas; three special cousins: Carol Ann Shutes and Thomasine Holt Snowden of El Dorado, Arkansas; Dorothy Wright of Garland, Texas; one special sister: Deloris Brodie Freelon of Columbia, South Carolina; two special friends: Cheri Walker of Grand Prairie, Texas and Evelyn Furlow of Houston, Texas.

His legacy also includes eight grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, five great nephews, six great nieces, five great-great nephews and four great-great nieces and a wealth of relatives and wonderful friends that will miss him dearly. "The Pretty Man."
