Uncle Bookie was always very industrious. At an early age, he not only helped all his family, he also served his country, enlisting in the Army from September 21, 1945 until his honorable discharge on February 2, 1047. he then enlisted in the Airforce on October 19, 1948 until he was honorably discharged on August 24, 2952. Later Uncle Bookie became a Merchant Marine with the Military Sealift Command. He traveled all over the world. To name a few place; New Orleans; Kenya; Africa; Savannah; Georgia; Honolulu; Hawaii; Baltimore, Maryland and Sasebo, Japan. Most of the time, he was docked in Oakland, Ca. Once, while docked in Norfolk Virginia, he heard his nephew, Wardell, who was in the Navy, was docked there also. He went to find him. Wardell said, Uncle Bookie told him all about the MSC. After he got out of the Navy, Wardall joined the Merchant Marines and stayed with him for about four years. Uncle Bookie helped him immensely. All of Uncle Bookie’s nieces and nephews fell the same. He was always there to help them whenever necessary.
Uncle Bookie retired from (MSC) Military Seaman Command in October of 1985. he couldn't just relax, so he began working as a security guard at Walmart. Bookie had hobbies, but the one we all know well was his LOVE for a “sweet game of POKER.” I you went to visit him and he wasn't home you knew where to find him.
Uncle Bookie had an effect on all of us in different ways, whether he was your Husband, Father, Uncle, Soulmate of Dear True Friend until the end. All of us will truly miss him, but let the good times, crazy times, yes all of the good memories you had with him give you Comfort, Calm and Peace.
